ORIGIN: The variety Valkýra was bred by Potato Research Institute Havlíčkův Brod, Ltd. as a cross of varieties. Registration was done in 2016.
TUBER DESCRIPTION: Tubers are short oval, medium large, with shallow eyes, yellow skin and light-yellow flesh.
AGRONOMIC CHARACTERS: Early to medium early variety for fresh consumption and chip and French fry production. Boiled tubers have medium firm texture, medium moisture, medium mealiness, medium rough structure, cooking type BC, off-taste is small to medium, after cooking darkening is slight. Due to suitable dry matter content, low reducing sugar content and short oval shape tubers fulfil requirements of processing industry as raw material for chip and French fry production.
The variety is medium resistant to viral diseases, medium resistant to foliage late blight and medium resistant to resistant to common scab, resistant to potato cyst nematode (Ro1). Potato yield is high; yield under irrigation is medium high to high. Marketable yield is high.
GROWER TIPS: Considering medium resistance to foliage late blight great care is required in late blight control, which is not possible without fungicide applications.
